When it comes to nonstick cookware, more and more people turn away from Teflon. Although it works very well, the drawback is significant that it outweighs the benefit. For years, people have been using it for the nonstick feature. But with recent health concerns about Teflon, people begin to seek for alternative. Just for the record, recent studies found that compound in Teflon may cause cancer.

So, should you fall back to traditional cookware? Not by any means. The good news is, manufacturers are able to innovate new technology for nonstick surface. They work equally well, if not better, at the price that is competitive.

Popular brands usually carry some models with such feature. Earth Pan calls it SandFlow because it is made of sand. Users reported very good experience with it. However, it does require that you handle it with care. Otherwise it may not last for too long.

Stainless steel and aluminum are two types of materials often used to make cookware. Both have their own benefits and drawbacks.

Stainless steel is called the king of metal because it is scratch resistant and durable. It is also easy to clean. When you often cook acidic and alkaline foods, stainless steel cookware is the right tool to do it. The drawback is that it is not as well a heat conductor than aluminum.

There are 3 types of aluminum cookware: anodized, cast and pressed. Among them, anodized is considered the best. Cast is thicker than pressed but it retains heat so cooking is faster. Pressed aluminum is less expensive but will wear out faster.

When choosing the right cookware, you have to take different factors into account. Beside the construction, pay attention to the type of food you want to cook. Are you cooking for a large family? How big a pan do you need? Is stockpot more ideal for you?

If you want the best tool for the job, look out for cookware sets as they are more complete. You can usually buy them at lower price than if you buy each item separately.
