Drinking enough water is an important part of maintaining your health. Increasing your water consumption will aid digestion, improve your concentration, increase your energy, and help your body rid itself of toxins. Since water is important for all of us, you may want to know some simple ways to drink more water.
Keep water with you
You will drink much more water if it is convenient. The easiest way to do this is to purchase a water bottle that can stay with you. Another option is to keep a Brita (or other filtered pitcher) at your desk or work space. This will allow you to have access to water all day. It will also provide a natural break when it is time to refill the pitcher.
Drink a glass of water as soon as you get up
Many people wake up with a dry mouth feeling. A glass of water in the morning tastes wonderful and is extremely refreshing. An added bonus is that starting the day with a glass of water gets the momentum started and makes it easier to drink water all day.
Drink water with your meals
Since most people have a beverage with meals, this is a natural place to add water into your routine. An added benefit to drinking water with meals is that it will help you feel full sooner. This is especially good news if you are trying to lose weight and struggle with portion control. Some people also add another glass of water after each meal.
Drink water instead of sugary and unhealthy drinks like soda
Some people drink large amounts of soda, tea, or some other beverage daily. Consciously drinking water instead would be a simple way to increase water intake. This is another benefit for weight watchers as water is much healthier than most of those other beverages. Also try having a sip of water when you have sweet cravings. People can feel hungry when their bodies are actually thirsty.
Add a glass of water to some part of your daily routine
If you find yourself forgetting to drink water, it helps to make it part of some other routine or habit. For example, I make sure to drink a glass of water while I wait for my very slow computer to boot up. This would work with anything that you do daily and that glass of water will quickly become something you don’t think about, just like the habit you added it to.
Keep water at the temperature you prefer to drink it
Some of us only enjoy water if it’s ice-cold, while others prefer room temperature. The most important thing is that you actually drink the water, so keep it at the temperature you will want to drink it at. I prefer to have mine at room temperature since ice-cold water hurts my teeth.
Add flavoring to water
You may not find this necessary but for those of us who are trying to drink water instead of some sweet beverage, it may be helpful to flavor the water. Experiment with different options to mix it up. Some flavors to try include lemon and lime. There are also flavoring packets that will alter the taste.
