Cut Down on Preparation Time With a Vegetable Chopper

A vegetable chopper is a very handy tool to have. It can save time and cut down on waste. There are several different types to choose from. There are single handy choppers that have little cups attached to them, and they work under a plunger operation. Than there is the two handed vegetable chopper that has a single blade attached to it.

These great items have been around for quite sometime, they are used widely in homes and restaurants. These devices are the perfect way to get uniformly cut vegetables.

Plunger Type

A very popular type that has grown in popularity in recent years in the plunger type vegetable chopper, it is a single handed instrument that cuts and chops vegetables uniformly.

With these types of choppers there is typically a single sharp blade housed within a container. The process works by pushing down on the plunger; the blade is engaged and chops the vegetables that have been placed in the container. Some models offer different cutting wheels that can be used for different functions, like dicing, slicing, chopping and making decorative cuts in the vegetables.

Usually you can also control the coarseness of the vegetables being chopped.

Single Blade Chopper

Some folks prefer the old school method of using a hand held tool to chop their vegetables so they opt for the double handled vegetable chopper. There is handles on either side of the blade. The chopping is done by hand by rocking the blade back and forth along the vegetables to be chopped.

You have to have a cutting board or a chopping block for this model. Some folks simply prefer having more control of what they chop. It is more difficult to make specialty cuts with this type of chopper, and less likely that the vegetables will be uniform.


Both models usually cost anywhere between twenty and fifty dollars, largely depending on the size of the chopper and the materials that are used to structure the chopper. The better quality models will be more expensive.

Herbs and Other Items

A vegetable chopper does not only have to be used to chop vegetables, it can also be used to chop herbs and spices. This can be a great asset in the kitchen. Some folks use their choppers to chop eggs and a host of other food products that need to be chopped up.
